Synopsis
Modern Times (1936) — watch online the legendary Charlie Chaplin comedy on iFILM. Produced and directed by Chaplin himself through his own Charles Chaplin Productions, the film opened on February 5, 1936, and marked the last screen appearance of his iconic Tramp character.
A factory worker on a steel assembly line loses his mind to the relentless pace of the belt. He gets arrested, released, arrested again. Along the way he meets a street girl played by Paulette Goddard, and together they stumble through hunger, cops and fleabag lodgings, trying to piece together something that looks like a life. No dialogue — just Chaplin's physical comedy, a sharp musical score, and the deafening clatter of industrial machinery.
The 87-minute film ends with a moment unlike anything in silent cinema: the Tramp opens his mouth and sings — in a gibberish language Chaplin invented on the spot. Not a word is understood. Everything is felt. Watch Modern Times (1936) online on iFILM.
