Love Exposure

Love Exposure (愛のむきだし, 2008) is a cult Japanese epic from Sion Sono, running nearly four hours, and you can watch online on iFILM. Yu grows up in a devout Catholic household until his mother dies and his father becomes a priest. From then on, the boy is expected to confess a sin every single day.

Trouble is, he has none — so Yu sets out to sin on purpose, just to have something to confess. He trains in covert upskirt photography like it's a martial art, falls in with street gangs, and takes up cross-dressing. Then he meets Yoko and falls in love for real. The catch: she first sees him dressed as a woman and is convinced he's a girl. A violent religious cult called Zero soon tangles the whole thing further. Takahiro Nishijima, Hikari Mitsushima and Sakura Ando lead the cast.

Across four hours Sono never lets up — farce, violence, first love and guilt smash together so fast the runtime evaporates. It's at once a parody of obsession and a sincere story about faith and desire. It rewards viewers ready for long, brazen, wildly unpredictable Asian cinema.
