Synopsis
Perfume (Parfum, 2018), Season 1 is a German crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM — six episodes that take Süskind's idea of scent as power and move it into the present day, as its own story rather than a film adaptation.
Singer Katharina Läufer is found dead, her scent glands cut from her body. Her funeral pulls five old boarding-school classmates back together, and one by one each becomes a suspect. Detective Nadja Simon runs the case while quietly compromising it through an affair with someone close to the group. Episode by episode, the obsession they all shared as teenagers comes back into view: the belief that a person's smell can be distilled and used to control others. An old missing-persons file from the school reopens. Across six chapters the net tightens, slow and cold.
This one lives on mood, not action — dark, sensual, occasionally hard to sit with, very much for fans of European noir. August Diehl and Friederike Becht carry it without a false note. Stream Perfume Season 1 online on iFILM.
