Synopsis
Black Tea (2024) is a romantic drama by Abderrahmane Sissako, and you can watch it online on iFILM. On her wedding day, a young Ivorian woman named Aya stuns the whole room by saying no, then leaves Africa behind for a new life across the world.
She lands in a Chinese city and takes a job at a shop that exports tea, working alongside its owner Cai, a man in his forties who treats every brew as a ritual. Their bond grows slowly, over talk of leaves, temperature and patience. Yet both carry the weight of earlier lives, and the people around them are quick to judge a couple who don't fit. Nina Mélo and Han Chang lead the cast.
Sissako, the Cannes-honored director of Timbuktu, frames a love story that crosses continents, languages and generations. There are no big twists here. The film lives in silences, gestures and color, and it rewards viewers who prefer mood over plot and tenderness over spectacle.
