Synopsis
Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution (ミュウツーの逆襲 EVOLUTION, 2019) is a family anime adventure you can watch online on iFILM. It's a full 3D-CG remake of the beloved 1998 feature, rebuilt frame by frame to mark the franchise's milestone.
Scientists clone an artificial Pokémon, Mewtwo, from an eyelash of the legendary Mew. When Mewtwo realizes it was engineered as a weapon, it breaks free and turns its fury on humans and ordinary Pokémon alike. Posing as a mysterious trainer, it lures Ash, Misty and Brock to a remote island lab and pits cloned Pokémon against their originals in a brutal fight. The film asks a surprisingly heavy question for a kids' movie: what separates a copy from the creature it was made from, and does manufactured life get to choose its own path?
The story tracks the original almost shot for shot, swapping hand-drawn cels for modern computer animation. It lands best with fans who grew up on the 1998 version and want to see Ash's tearful finale redone, and with parents passing the classic on to their kids.
