Synopsis

Welcome to the South (Benvenuti al sud, 2010) is an Italian comedy from director Luca Miniero, available to watch online on iFILM. To a northerner, a posting down south feels like exile. Alberto is about to learn that firsthand.

Alberto runs a post office near Milan, and his wife Silvia is desperate to move into the city. His shortcut to a promotion is fraud — it backfires, and he gets shipped off to a tiny town in Campania instead. The north dreads the south on pure rumor: criminals everywhere, an impossible accent, the coffee all wrong. Reality flips every fear on its head. The colleagues are warm, the dinners loud, and postman Mattia turns into the best friend he never expected.

The whole film runs on Italy's long north-versus-south rivalry, mining laughs from dialect, food and snobbery — sometimes from a local slang Alberto can't decode at all. It's a remake of the French smash Welcome to the Sticks, transplanted so smoothly that it drew a massive home audience. No hidden depths here, just an easy, good-hearted watch for a quiet evening.
