Synopsis
The Woodsman (2004), Nicole Kassell's quiet, unsettling drama, is available to watch online on iFILM. Kevin Bacon takes on one of the hardest roles of his career: a convicted pedophile trying to keep himself in check after release.
Out after twelve years, Walter comes home to a family that's mostly given up on him — only his brother-in-law still answers the phone. He lands a job at a lumber mill, slowly opens up to a coworker named Vickie (played by Bacon's real-life wife, Kyra Sedgwick), and fights his own pull every single day. Then he notices a man lingering by a schoolyard, and recognizes the look on his face all too clearly.
This was Kassell's feature debut, and she refuses to hand the audience an easy verdict — no excuse, no condemnation. Michael Shannon and Benjamin Bratt turn up in small, sharp roles.
