Synopsis
36th Precinct (36 quai des Orfèvres, 2004) is Olivier Marchal's French crime thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A gang has been ripping open armored cars across Paris for months, and two cops set out to bring it down — each chasing something more than the arrest.
Léo Vrinks runs the anti-gang unit; Denis Klein heads organized crime. The outgoing chief of police lays it out plainly: whoever takes down the crew inherits his office on the famous Quai des Orfèvres. Old friends curdle into bitter rivals, and it isn't only the promotion between them — it's a woman, Camille, Vrinks's wife. What follows gets dirtier than any robbery: setups, leaks, and a gun aimed squarely at a colleague's back.
Marchal spent twelve years on the force before directing, and he shot this from inside the job, drawing partly on real cases from the 1980s. Daniel Auteuil and Gérard Depardieu play two wolves on the same turf until any line between right and wrong simply dissolves. A hard, pitiless polar with no white hats — for fans of French noir meaner and grubbier than the Hollywood kind. Stream 36th Precinct (2004) online on iFILM.
