The Good Lie

The lead roles went to actors who lived the refugee experience themselves, including Arnold Oceng and Ger Duany, and that grounding gives the film a weight no performance could fake.

Director Philippe Falardeau keeps the sentimentality in check and never turns someone else's trauma into a tidy lesson. Beneath the light, almost comic culture-clash scenes sits a harder question about the guilt of survival and the brother left behind. This one's for viewers after a quiet, genuinely human story.
