Hawking (2013) is a British documentary you can watch online on iFILM — directed by Stephen Finnigan with the kind of access most biographical films never get: Stephen Hawking on camera, in his own synthesised voice, talking about his own life.
The film covers ground that goes well beyond the physics. Hawking in post-war Oxford as a young man with no particular direction. The motor neurone diagnosis at twenty-one, the prognosis that turned out to be wildly wrong. A first marriage to Jane that lasted twenty-five years. The voice synthesiser that became more recognisable than most human voices. People who knew him closely — family, friends, collaborators — fill in what he leaves out.
Running 86 minutes, it doesn't try to explain cosmology. That's already been done. This one explains the person. Stream Hawking (2013) online on iFILM.
