Synopsis
Me, Myself and Mum (Les Garçons et Guillaume, à table !, 2013) is a French comedy you can watch online on iFILM, written, directed by and starring Guillaume Gallienne. It's his own life on screen: a boy who idolized his mother so completely that he picked up her voice, her gestures, her tastes — and everyone around him read him wrong for years.
As a child, Guillaume was sure he was a girl, because his mother and the whole household had quietly decided as much. What follows is a tug-of-war between who people assume he is and who he turns out to be, with the world filing him under "gay" while he keeps searching. Gallienne plays two roles here — himself and the formidable mother whose shadow falls over everything. Diane Kruger and Françoise Fabian show up along the way. The story runs to age thirty, when he finally meets the woman who'll stand beside that mother in his life.
Adapted from Gallienne's own one-man stage show, this is a rare case of an artist dissecting his own family and sparing no one, least of all himself. It swept five César Awards, Best Film among them. Funny, awkward and unexpectedly tender — good for anyone who likes a comedy that means something underneath the laughs. Stream Me, Myself and Mum (2013) online on iFILM.
