Synopsis
Weekend (2011) is Andrew Haigh's British drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. On a Friday night, drifting away from a party full of his straight mates, Russell ducks into a gay club and picks up Glen just before last call. What was meant to be a one-night thing quietly refuses to end there.
They have two days before Glen leaves the country for good. Across that short stretch the two near-strangers talk through nearly everything — love, the fear of being seen, how much of yourself to show in public. Tom Cullen plays the reserved Russell; Chris New is the blunt, combative Glen. Haigh shoots it small and close, almost without a score, in long conversations across a flat and a bar, and that plainness is exactly where its honesty comes from.
A low-budget film made in Nottingham, it became one of the defining queer movies of its decade and put Haigh on the international map. It's quiet, grown-up filmmaking about how a brief encounter can rearrange a person. One for anyone who loves talky dramas without big gestures. Stream Weekend (2011) online on iFILM.
