Adoration

Adoration (2013) is Anne Fontaine's drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Two women who have been best friends since girlhood fall for each other's grown sons, then spend years guarding the secret in a sleepy seaside town.

Lil (Naomi Watts) and Roz (Robin Wright) grew up as neighbors on an Australian beach and never drifted apart. Their boys, raised side by side, are as close as the mothers are. One summer the bond among the four turns into something none of them planned: each woman drifts toward the other's son. The forbidden arrangement brings a strange, sunlit contentment, until time and the eyes of the town force everyone to answer for it.

Adapted from Doris Lessing's novella The Grandmothers, the film lets a scandalous premise unfold calmly, under salt air and bright light rather than melodrama.
