Synopsis
Little Dorrit (2008) is an eight-part BBC drama you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Charles Dickens' novel by screenwriter Andrew Davies. Claire Foy plays Amy Dorrit, a young woman who grew up inside the Marshalsea debtors' prison, where her father William (Tom Courtenay) has been locked away for two decades.
When Arthur Clennam (Matthew Macfadyen) returns from China and crosses paths with Amy, his search into his own family's past turns up a connection between their histories that neither knew existed. A hidden fortune then lifts the Dorrits out of prison — and wealth turns out to be a stranger, more unsettling test than poverty ever was.
Davies keeps Dickens' social architecture intact, and the cast — including Andy Serkis and Eddie Marsan — fills in every corner. The series picked up the BAFTA for Best Drama Serial in 2009. What stays with you is Claire Foy's Amy: steady, undramatic, absorbing every blow. Stream Little Dorrit online on iFILM.
