Stella, Ava and the other women on screen are not presented as victims in the conventional sense. Each one arrived with her own reasons, her own hopes, her own version of how it would go. That specificity is what makes the film stick: it refuses to answer where choice ends and exploitation begins, and leaves that question sitting with the viewer.
