Synopsis
Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets (2021) is a coming-of-age dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. Sixteen-year-old James Whitman fights his anxiety and depression in an unusual way — by holding therapy sessions with an imaginary giant pigeon he calls Dr. Bird.
What weighs on James most is his older sister's disappearance, a subject his parents refuse to discuss. So he leans on Walt Whitman's poetry, hugs trees, and tries to piece the truth together himself. Lucas Jade Zumann carries the film as James, with Taylor Russell, Jason Isaacs, and Tom Wilkinson voicing the feathered therapist.
Director Yaniv Raz adapts Evan Roskos's novel of the same name, letting the tone swing between funny and bruising without softening either one. It lands best with viewers who love small indie dramas about teenagers who can't quite catch their breath. Stream Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets (2021) online on iFILM.
