Synopsis

Danny Collins (2015), Dan Fogelman's bittersweet comedy-drama with Al Pacino, is available to watch online on iFILM. An aging rocker who has spent decades crooning the same old hit to crowds of graying fans stumbles onto a letter written to him back in the 1970s and, for reasons no one quite explains, never delivered.

The letter came from John Lennon. Reading it four decades too late, Danny Collins yanks his life off autopilot: he scraps the tour, checks into an ordinary hotel, and tries to build something with the grown son, Tom (Bobby Cannavale), he has never once met. He also fumbles his way through a courtship of the hotel manager, played by Annette Bening. Christopher Plummer is his acid-tongued manager; Jennifer Garner plays the daughter-in-law.

Fogelman took his cue from the real case of a British folk musician whose Lennon letter surfaced only years on. What carries the film is Pacino, playing a charming poser who can't quite believe he might still turn into a decent man, and pulling it off without melodrama. A warm reminder that it's not too late to start over, even in your seventies. Stream Danny Collins (2015) online on iFILM.
