Synopsis
Dirty Dancing (2017) is Wayne Blair's musical re-imagining of the 1987 classic, and you can watch it online on iFILM. This made-for-TV version keeps the summer-romance bones of the original but folds in song numbers and fresh choreography. Frances "Baby" Houseman (Abigail Breslin) arrives at a Catskills resort with her family expecting a dull vacation. Then she meets dance instructor Johnny Castle (Colt Prattes) and his partner Penny, and ends up secretly stepping in to perform when Penny can't. The lessons turn into a romance her doctor father deeply disapproves of. The beats you remember are all here, now broken up by characters actually singing, with "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" still closing things out.
This one is aimed squarely at people who grew up on the original and want it dressed as a TV musical. The cast adds Debra Messing, Bruce Greenwood and Nicole Scherzinger as Penny.
