Young lion Simba (Donald Glover) is heir to Pride Rock, raised by his father Mufasa (James Earl Jones) to understand that every creature has a place in the cycle of life. His uncle Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor) has a different vision. After a devastating ambush, Simba flees in shame and spends years hiding with a warthog and a meerkat, refusing to go back. Eventually Nala (Beyoncé) tracks him down and makes it clear there is nothing left to hide from.

Favreau built the film using virtual production technology — the same pipeline later used on The Mandalorian — giving every scene a texture closer to wildlife documentary than traditional animation.
