Meanwhile two prosecutors and a DEA investigator spend years trying to prove the maker lied from day one. The ensemble includes Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Will Poulter and Kaitlyn Dever as a young miner whose life caves in around the pills.

Showrunner Danny Strong built the series out of journalist Beth Macy's reporting and the real court record, so the drama rests on documented fact rather than invention.
