Synopsis
A Walk in the Woods (2015) is an American comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Travel writer Bill Bryson, home again after twenty years in England, gets it into his head to hike the Appalachian Trail end to end: more than two thousand miles on foot, at an age when most men buy a recliner instead.
Nobody sane will go with him. The only taker is Stephen Katz, an old friend and recovering drunk who is overweight, out of shape, and full of bad ideas. Robert Redford plays Bryson, Nick Nolte plays Katz, and most of the movie runs on their bickering around campfires and their wheezing up every incline. Emma Thompson is Bryson's wife, who waves him off into this nonsense with a very raised eyebrow. Along the trail the pair collect a motormouth fellow hiker, oddball motel folks, and a couple of bears they are spectacularly unprepared to meet.
Drawn from Bryson's own memoir, Ken Kwapis's film skips the big dramatic beats and just watches two old men who have nothing left to prove and keep going anyway.
