Synopsis
Masters of the Air (2024) is the war drama from producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg you can watch online on iFILM. The nine-part miniseries traces the American 100th Bomb Group, the crews who flew B-17 Flying Fortresses on daylight raids over occupied Europe.
At its heart are pilots Gale Cleven (Austin Butler) and John Egan (Callum Turner), best friends whose bombers keep limping home full of holes. Anthony Boyle plays navigator Harry Crosby; Nate Mann is the young flier Rosenthal. Every mission means flak, German fighters and empty bunks back at the base by nightfall. Crews who go down end up in POW camps, or never come back at all.
This is the third chapter after Band of Brothers and The Pacific, and the priciest Apple TV+ show at launch. The dogfights were reconstructed from actual mission logs and shot on full-scale fuselage rigs. It rewards anyone who values precision in war storytelling and can stomach the toll each sortie takes.
