Synopsis

Drinking Buddies (2013) is an indie dramedy from Joe Swanberg you can watch online on iFILM. Kate and Luke work at a Chicago craft brewery, spending their days pouring beer, trading jokes, and clearly liking each other more than they should. The catch: they're both already with someone else.

Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson play it without scripted dialogue — nearly the whole film is improvised, which is why every conversation sounds like something you weren't meant to overhear. Kate is dating the buttoned-up Chris (Ron Livingston); Luke lives with the quiet, steady Jill (Anna Kendrick). A weekend getaway tangles everything, and none of the four can quite say where friendship ends and something messier begins.

Swanberg shoots it with no melodramatic blowups and no tidy resolutions — a rare film about adults who behave like actual people instead of rom-com characters. It's for anyone who loves low-key, talk-heavy movies in the early-Linklater vein. Stream Drinking Buddies (2013) online on iFILM.
