Synopsis
A Walk in the Clouds (1995) is Alfonso Arau's romantic drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Coming home from World War II, soldier Paul Sutton shares a train with Victoria, a young woman returning to her family pregnant and dreading her father's reaction.
To spare her from disgrace, Paul agrees to pretend, for a single day, to be her husband in front of a proud Mexican-American family of winemakers. Victoria is heir to a Napa Valley vineyard, and her father lives by hard work, honor, and old custom. One lie leads to the next, and somewhere between the harvest and the dinner table a real bond grows between them. Keanu Reeves plays against type in a tender lead, with Aitana Sanchez-Gijon beside him and Anthony Quinn as the family patriarch.
Every frame glows with vineyard gold; cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki turned the nighttime grape-stomping ritual into a sequence people still study shot by shot.
