Synopsis

Norman is nearing eighty, his memory slipping and his temper sharper than ever. The crusty old man and the restless kid bond faster than anyone expects, and that unlikely friendship slowly thaws the distance between a father and daughter who never learned how to talk. Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn play the couple, while Jane Fonda plays the daughter, lending the on-screen estrangement a raw, almost biographical edge.
Mark Rydell's quiet film gave Henry Fonda the lead-acting Oscar that had eluded him for a lifetime, his final role; Hepburn took the actress prize the same year.
