The Enforcer

The Enforcer (1976) is the third Dirty Harry picture, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Clint Eastwood returns as Inspector Harry Callahan, this time hunting a band of armed militants who are robbing, kidnapping and killing their way across San Francisco.

The catch: the brass pairs Harry with Kate Moore, the homicide squad's first woman inspector, played by Tyne Daly. He thinks she has no business near his .44 Magnum. Then the gang grabs hostages and starts dictating terms to City Hall, and the partnership stops being optional. The trail runs through underground gun caches and dead ends until it points to Alcatraz. James Fargo directs with a leaner, meaner hand than the earlier films.

The tagline called it the dirtiest Harry of them all, and the movie earns it. What gives this one its edge is the friction between Eastwood's old-school cop and a department that now wants paperwork instead of bodies.
