Synopsis
Eight Legged Freaks (2002) is a creature-feature horror comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Ellory Elkayem, it drops a toxic chemical spill into the water supply of a sleepy desert mining town and waits for things to go very wrong.
They go wrong fast. A local exotic-spider collector feeds his pets bugs from the contaminated pond, and the arachnids balloon to the size of trucks overnight. Mining engineer Chris McCormack (David Arquette) and Sheriff Sam Parker (Kari Wührer) round up a ragtag crew of townsfolk, paranoid radio host Harlan included, to fight back. A young Scarlett Johansson turns up as the sheriff's daughter.
Elkayem leans hard into the cheesy giant-bug pictures of the 1950s, then swaps in CGI and a steady supply of jokes. The spiders chitter, leap and practically perform.
