Synopsis
Annie (2014) is a musical comedy-drama directed by Will Gluck, available to watch online on iFILM. Ten-year-old Annie is sharp, stubborn, and stuck in a foster home run by the bitter Miss Hannigan. When New York power broker and mayoral candidate Will Stacks takes her in — a move his campaign team cooks up as a photo opportunity — Annie quickly stops being a prop and starts being a problem he genuinely cares about.
Quvenzhané Wallis brings a relentless brightness to the role that makes you forget every earlier version. Jamie Foxx plays Stacks as a man who's forgotten how to need anyone. Cameron Diaz leans hard into Hannigan's failed-pop-star backstory, and Rose Byrne is sharp as Stacks's loyal VP. The film plants the classic story firmly in present-day New York, reworks the musical numbers with a contemporary R&B lean, and gives the character of Annie a new racial identity — changes that sparked as much debate as praise.
The source material stretches back to Harold Gray's 1924 comic strip and the beloved 1977 Broadway show. Director Gluck — coming off Easy A — treats the material as a crowd-pleaser first and a message film second. Stream Annie (2014) online on iFILM.
