As city officials prepare for a visit from General Secretary Brezhnev, they are troubled by a doctor looking into cases of anemia among local children.

As the extent of the epidemic dawns on her, Jolanta cautiously starts bringing allies to her cause — but one of them isn't being truthful with her.

After sending her family away, Jolanta goes on a tour of the smelting plant. Insinuating himself into Jolanta's life, Niedziela sets a trap for her.

Much to his frustration, Niedziela's attempts to intimidate Jolanta only strengthen her resolve to move the children away from the plant.

General Secretary Brezhnev's visit sets everyone on edge. A new discovery helps Jolanta to convince parents that their children are in real danger.

When Jolanta succeeds in turning the tide against the city officials, Niedziela demands extraordinary measures to stop her.
