63 Up
Every seven years, their lives, their loves, their fears & losses, their hopes & dreams.
Synopsis
63 Up (2019) is available to watch online on iFILM — the eighth chapter in British director Michael Apted's landmark documentary series, which began in 1964 when a group of seven-year-old children from across Britain's class spectrum were filmed for the first time.
Every seven years, Apted returned to the same people. At 63, they carry a great deal of lived ground: grandchildren, bereavements, countries changed, old ambitions quietly shelved. Some had dropped out of the project over the decades; others came back. Together they sketch a full portrait of a generation from postwar childhood to the threshold of old age.
The Up series is probably the most sustained social portrait in cinema — no other project has tracked the same individuals across six decades. This instalment is as unhurried and honest as the others. Stream 63 Up online on iFILM.
