Synopsis
Asakusa Kid (浅草キッド, 2021) is a Japanese drama you can watch online on iFILM. Tokyo, the mid-1960s. A college dropout named Takeshi drifts into a shabby theater in the Asakusa district, hoping to learn how to make a room laugh.
His teacher is Senzaburo Fukami, an old-school comic with one iron rule: never break character, on stage or off. The kid rehearses through the night while television quietly empties the seats of the live theaters, and the master's fame fades just as the pupil's begins to catch fire. This is the early life of Takeshi Kitano, directed by comedian Gekidan Hitori from Kitano's own memoir, with Yuya Yagira as the future icon and Yo Oizumi as his mentor.
