Synopsis
A wedding, five grown brothers and a World Cup final, all crammed into one chaotic day — that is Family United (La gran familia española, 2013), which you can watch online on iFILM. Daniel Sánchez Arévalo's tragicomedy unfolds entirely on 11 July 2010, the afternoon Spain played for the trophy.
The whole clan descends on the family home: the youngest brother is getting married, and his older siblings show up carrying grudges, secrets and things left unsaid for years. Outside, the country holds its breath for football. Inside, a very different set of contests breaks out — old rivalries, a forbidden attraction, jealousy and scores that nobody ever settled. Antonio de la Torre, Quim Gutiérrez and Verónica Echegui play people who love each other and drive each other crazy in equal measure.
Arévalo runs the film on a simple contrast: one shared celebration outside, five private meltdowns within a single family. It swings from funny to painful, sometimes inside the same scene. A warm, sharp pick for anyone who recognizes their own relatives at someone else's table. Stream Family United (2013) online on iFILM.
