Synopsis
Outrage (1950) is an American crime drama directed by Ida Lupino — watch it online on iFILM, starring Mala Powers. Produced independently through Filmmakers Productions, with Tod Andrews and Robert Clarke in supporting roles.
Ann Walton has a fiancé, a steady job, and a future she can picture. Walking home from a late shift, she's attacked. The film doesn't go to a courtroom. It stays with Ann through what comes after: the silence from people who care about her but don't know how to help, the distance that opens between her and her fiancé, the inability to feel safe anywhere familiar. She eventually leaves for a remote farm, where a local minister tries to help her put something back together.
Lupino was one of the only women directing in Hollywood at the time, and she made something unusual for 1950 — a film that keeps the camera on the survivor rather than the crime. The anger is quiet. It lives in the small failures of people who love Ann and still can't reach her. Stream Outrage online on iFILM.
