Queen & Slim

Now they're heading south together with no clear destination, every news alert rewriting their names. Along the way, strangers react to their photograph: some with hatred, some with something closer to reverence, as if two people running have become a mirror for something wider and older than either of them.

Matsoukas built the film's visual language from years directing music videos for Beyoncé, and the cinematography carries that: long highways, close faces, an America that looks beautiful and dangerous at once.
