Synopsis

Writer Chow is deep in his serial adventure novel when the line between author and hero begins to dissolve. He steps into the story, becoming Dr. Wai — the King of Adventurers — riding through danger and brawling his way across a hunt for an ancient manuscript said to foretell the future. Takeshi Kaneshiro and Rosamund Kwan play alongside him in both the fictional and the real-world layers. The film knows exactly what it is: a genre exercise with a self-aware twist, where the bigger each set-piece gets, the clearer it becomes that Chow is simply writing himself into another jam on the page.
