Synopsis

Fyre (2019) is Chris Smith's documentary about a luxury festival that collapsed before a single act played, and you can watch online on iFILM. It tracks how one promoter sold thousands of people a dream getaway in the Bahamas and built almost nothing.

Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule hyped Fyre Festival with supermodels, yachts and villas on a private island. Buyers paid thousands for tickets. What waited for them was a field of disaster-relief tents in the rain, cheese sandwiches in foam boxes, and no music at all. Smith pieces the story together from the inside: former staff, contractors and investors explain how everyone saw the wreck coming and stayed quiet anyway.

The film landed on Netflix and became one of the most talked-about docs of its year. The hook is the honesty of the people on camera, admitting what they did for money and out of fear of their boss. If you like stories about big cons and the way smart people talk themselves into bad ideas, this one beats anything a screenwriter could invent. Stream Fyre (2019) online on iFILM.
