Synopsis
The Alabama Solution (2025) is a documentary by Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman you can watch online on iFILM. The footage comes from where no camera was invited — inside Easterling prison, shot by the incarcerated men themselves on smuggled phones.
A handful of them gamble their lives to show the outside world how one of America's deadliest prison systems really runs. Robert Earl Council and Melvin Ray speak straight to the lens, fully aware of the price: beatings, isolation, or the kind of silence in which a man simply disappears. The directors assemble the film from clandestine recordings, intercepted calls and official non-answers, and a portrait of guard violence, buried deaths and cover-up emerges from the inside rather than from a podium.
Jarecki, whose series The Staircase once reshaped true crime, keeps his distance from spectacle and lets the people the system would rather mute do the talking.
