Payoff

Payoff (Gomez & Tavarès, 2003) is a French action comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Gilles Paquet-Brenner sets the action in a Marseille precinct where ignoring small crimes long ago became unofficial policy and nobody expects anything different.

Lieutenant Tavarès has a gambling habit everybody knows about. His department pairs him with Carlos Gomes — ostensibly to straighten him out. Gomes turns out to have his own complications. The two work the city's rougher neighborhoods together, getting along precisely because neither is in a position to lecture the other.
