Ali Candan comes home from an operation in Kosovo, and the state erases the man he was. Surgeons give him a new face; his handlers give him a new name, Polat Alemdar, and a long climb up through the underworld. His way in runs through a feud between two bosses — hot-tempered Sevko and the cooler, sharper Cakir. Polat throws in with Cakir, and the alliance reshapes who controls the city, all the way up to the opening of a casino where every crime lord in Istanbul shows his face. Above them sits the Council of the Wolves, holding the knot that ties the mafia to money and to the state.
