Anthropocene: The Human Epoch
A shift in consciousness is the beginning of change
Synopsis
Anthropocene: The Human Epoch (2018) is a Canadian documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director and photographer Edward Burtynsky co-directed with Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier, filming across six continents.
The footage covers potash mines that turn the horizon pink for miles, concrete seawalls built to hold back rising water, open-pit mining machines the size of apartment buildings, and electronic waste sites in Ghana. Swedish actress Alicia Vikander narrates. Burtynsky is known for large-format industrial landscape photography, and that eye runs through every frame — there is something close to composition in images that should only produce horror.
The film doesn't argue. It doesn't need to. Watching humanity's footprint at this scale does its own work. Stream Anthropocene: The Human Epoch (2018) online on iFILM.
