Synopsis
Suicide Room (Sala samobójców, 2011) is a Polish drama from director Jan Komasa, available to watch online on iFILM. It follows a privileged teenager whose life caves in after a single phone video gets out at school.
On the surface Dominik has everything: money, designer clothes, a seat at the popular table. Then a drunken kiss with another boy is filmed and passed around, and the bullying that follows pushes him out of the real world entirely. He stops going to class, shuts himself in his room, and disappears into an anonymous online "suicide room" where avatars talk about death like it's an escape. A pink-haired girl named Sylwia pulls him deeper in. His wealthy parents, distracted and out of their depth, only grasp what is happening when it may already be too late.
Jakub Gierszal plays the slide with no theatrics, which is exactly what makes it land. Komasa's debut feature took several Polish Eagle awards and tackled cyberbullying and parental blindness years before either became a talking point. Heavy, raw, hard to shake. Stream Suicide Room (2011) online on iFILM.
