Synopsis
Seaspiracy (2021) is a Netflix documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Filmmaker Ali Tabrizi, an ocean lover since childhood, sets out to make a movie about whales and plastic — but his investigation drags him somewhere far darker.
The deeper Tabrizi digs, the uglier it gets. Ghost nets, the Taiji dolphin hunts, forced labor aboard Thai trawlers, the hollow "dolphin-safe" tuna label — the film hammers the commercial fishing industry one claim at a time. His camera travels from Japan to the Faroe Islands, and nearly every interview goes cold the moment money comes up. Oceanographer Sylvia Earle and Ric O'Barry, the former dolphin trainer from The Cove, both appear on screen.
The film landed as a lightning rod: fishing groups and several scientists disputed some of its figures and its editing. As a provocation that makes you rethink what's on your plate, though, it lands hard and will not leave your dinner habits untouched. Stream Seaspiracy (2021) online on iFILM.
