Synopsis

Working a dead-end job clearing out a dead man's apartment, he finds a war diary written by a soldier who died in Algeria, pages no one will ever claim. He publishes them as his own and overnight becomes the literary name he always wanted: money, a fine house, a fiancee from a wealthy family. Pierre Niney plays a man trapped by his own success, unable to produce the second book everyone now expects. Then a stranger calls who knows exactly where the first one came from.
Gozlan isn't interested in writing so much as in watching a lie tighten, slowly, with no theatrics. It's Hitchcockian guilt and blackmail relocated to a sun-bleached French coast, and Niney carries nearly every frame of it. A tight 103-minute slow burn for anyone who likes the noose pulled quietly.
