Synopsis
My Wife Is an Actress (Ma femme est une actrice, 2001) is a French romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Yvan Attal wrote, directed and starred — and the semi-autobiographical angle is built in: his co-star Charlotte Gainsbourg was his real-life partner at the time.
His on-screen character is a sports journalist navigating the specific indignities of fame-by-proximity. Restaurants materialize when his wife calls. Traffic cops let things slide when she smiles. He tolerates all of it — until Charlotte takes a role requiring intimate scenes, and her leading man turns out to be Terence Stamp.
The joke is that Yvan knows he's being unreasonable and cannot stop. Attal never lets his character off the hook, and Gainsbourg is funny precisely because she refuses to perform any guilt.
