Synopsis
Welcome Aboard (Bienvenue à bord, 2011) is a French comedy from director Éric Lavaine, free to watch online on iFILM. Almost all of it plays out aboard a luxury cruise liner, and the whole plot hinges on one woman's revenge.
Isabelle (Valérie Lemercier) works for the cruise line and makes the oldest mistake going: she takes her own boss as a lover. He dumps her right before the fleet's new flagship sets off on its maiden voyage. Instead of poison or a scandal, she picks a sharper weapon. She hires Rémy (Franck Dubosc), a cheerful unemployed layabout, as an onboard entertainer and sics him on her ex and the pompous cruise director, turning the voyage into their personal nightmare.
The humour is broadly, comfortably French, leaning on Dubosc's charm and his knack for sweet, low-stakes chaos. Don't go looking for depth here. It's a light holiday comedy for a glass of wine, all sea views and a predictable but likeable finish where the goofball quietly turns everyone's life around.
