Kansas doctoral student Omar Razaghi has secured a grant to write the biography of late Latin American novelist Jules Gund. Problem: Gund's brother, widow, and young mistress share a remote Uruguayan estate and never authorized any biography. Omar flies there anyway. What he finds is not one account of who Jules Gund was, but three competing versions — each person guarding a different piece of the truth.
