The Cannonball Run

The Cannonball Run (1981) is Hal Needham's action comedy you can watch online on iFILM. It's an illegal coast-to-coast race with no rules and no speed limit, where the first driver from one ocean to the other walks off with the cash.

The starting line fills up with a pack of reckless competitors, each working an angle. Burt Reynolds runs the race in a car disguised as an ambulance, complete with a fake patient strapped to a gurney. Roger Moore plays a millionaire convinced he actually is James Bond. Dom DeLuise, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Farrah Fawcett and a young Jackie Chan each pile on their own brand of mayhem while the police and common sense fall far behind.

Needham came up as a stuntman, and it shows, the whole thing runs on crashes, gags and a cast that's plainly having a blast. The plot fits on a napkin, but the energy never lets up, and the blooper-reel credits became a small legend of their own.
