Synopsis
"The State of Things" (1982) is Wim Wenders' black-and-white meta-film you can watch online on iFILM. A film crew shooting a post-apocalyptic movie on the Portuguese coast runs out of film stock. The producer vanishes. Everyone waits.
Director Munro (Patrick Bauchau) chases the missing money man Gordon (Allen Garfield) to Los Angeles, leaving his cast and crew stranded at a deserted seaside resort. Roger Corman and Samuel Fuller both show up as themselves — the layers of cinema-within-cinema keep multiplying.
The picture took the Golden Lion at Venice in 1982, made during the stretch between "The American Friend" and "Paris, Texas" when Wenders was thinking hard about what Hollywood costs a filmmaker. It is the most precise film ever made about a movie that cannot be finished. Stream "The State of Things" online in high quality on iFILM.
