Synopsis
King Richard (2021) is a sports biopic you can watch online on iFILM. Will Smith plays the father who mapped out a route from Compton to the top of world tennis for two of his daughters — a role that won him an Academy Award.
The film opens in the late 1980s. Richard Williams works security, drives his girls to cracked public courts after dark, and carries a handwritten plan dozens of pages long: the futures of eight-year-old Venus and seven-year-old Serena, charted year by year. There is no money for elite coaching, so the parents teach the strokes themselves, with wife Brandi studying taped lessons and drilling the younger sister at home. When a famous coach agrees to train one of them for free but refuses the other, Richard's stubbornness threatens everything he has fought for.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the cast pairs Smith with Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Brandi and newcomers Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as the Williams sisters.
