Cats

Cats (2019) is Tom Hooper's musical fantasy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Once a year a tribe of cats gathers for a midnight ball where each one sings the story of who they are.

The film adapts Andrew Lloyd Webber's long-running stage musical, itself built on T. S. Eliot's poems. During the night the tribe must choose a single cat to be reborn into a new life, and the contenders could not be more different: the faded glamour cat Grizabella, the wise old patriarch Old Deuteronomy, the magician Mr. Mistoffelees, the greedy Bustopher Jones. Newcomer Victoria walks the audience through the songs and dances of one very long night.

The voice and dance cast is enormous: Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson and Taylor Swift, with Royal Ballet dancer Francesca Hayward leading as Victoria. It is an odd, divisive, unlike-anything swing at the digital-fur experiment, and worth a look just to land on your own verdict. Stream Cats (2019) online on iFILM.
